The 828U Steel Field is Benelli's over-under in 20 gauge, built on a steel receiver finished in brushed gray and hung with 28-inch gloss-finished barrels. It runs 45.25 inches overall, weighs 7.08 pounds and chambers 3-inch shells, two at a time. The AA-grade satin walnut stock hides Benelli's Progressive Comfort recoil system, the pull is 14 3/4 inches, and a bead tops the rib. Lockup is Benelli's own steel system, the top lever resets the trigger, and the ejectors sit inside the barrels rather than the receiver.

The extra receiver weight is the whole idea: it settles the gun on crossing clays and smooths the swing on upland birds, which is where a 20-gauge double in Massachusetts spends most of its outings. It also counts as a legal deer gun under the state's shotgun-only rule for the two-week season after Thanksgiving, since any shotgun of 10 gauge or smaller qualifies, though most owners will keep it for birds and clays and read MassWildlife's current rules before loading it for deer.
