The Rossi RB22 is a 4-pound bolt-action .22 LR with a black synthetic stock and a blued 18-inch barrel that is button rifled and free floated. It measures 35.5 inches overall, feeds from a detachable 10-round magazine and ships with one. Adjustable fiber optic sights come fitted, so it shoots as delivered without a scope, and a manual safety sits where the thumb finds it.

At 4 pounds this is a rifle for walking, teaching and plinking rather than bench work, and in Massachusetts it will see all three, because rifles have no deer role here; the gun seasons belong to shotguns and muzzleloaders. The short barrel and light stock suit younger or smaller shooters learning the bolt, and the fiber optic sights are easier for new eyes than plain irons. Ten-round magazines keep the pace up on a tin-can afternoon and feed small-game ammunition without fuss.
